Study permit essentials to plan around
Admission is only the first step. When we plan a file with you, we plan around the current study permit requirements as well:
- Designated learning institution. Your acceptance letter must come from a DLI.
- Provincial or territorial attestation letter. Most applicants applying from outside Canada need a PAL or TAL, unless an exemption applies. From January 1, 2026, master's and doctoral students at public DLIs are exempt.
- Proof of funds. For applications made on or after September 1, 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show at least $23,448 for first-year living costs, in addition to first-year tuition and travel costs. More is required if family members are coming with you.
- Working while you study. Eligible full-time students can work up to 24 hours per week off campus during terms, and full time during scheduled breaks.
- After graduation. Eligible graduates may qualify for a post-graduation work permit of up to 3 years.
See our student visa and work permit pages for more detail, and confirm current requirements on the Government of Canada immigration pages before you apply.
Frequently asked questions
What does Fusion Heights help with?
We are an international student enrollment consulting firm. We help with school selection, applications, visa preparation guidance, and post landing support, from pre-admission through arrival.
Which schools can I apply to?
We help students apply to high schools, colleges, and universities in Canada. The right choices depend on your study goals, background, and personal needs, so we shortlist institutions with you rather than offering a fixed list.
When should I start?
As early as you can. Admission and visa steps each take time, and starting early gives you more choice of schools and more room to prepare documents carefully. Contact us and we will map out the steps for your situation.
Do you guarantee admission or a visa?
No, and no honest adviser can. Admission decisions rest with the institutions, and visa decisions rest with the Canadian immigration authorities. What we do is prepare the strongest, most complete application possible and guide you through each requirement.
What happens after I am admitted?
We help you prepare for arrival through our post landing services: accommodation, transportation, coaching, translation, packing and shipping, and health insurance referral.
